Age vs result (performance curve)

Average and best value (Sinclair) depending on athlete's age on competition day.

How to read this page?

Each point represents all starts of athletes at a given age (not just their best result) - so the line can be a bit "jagged" when there are few starts at a given age.

Ages with fewer than 5 starts are omitted, so single cases do not distort the chart.

The peak of the curve roughly shows at what age athletes of a given sex most often reach their best form.

Sinclair vs Total: Sinclair normalizes the result relative to bodyweight, so the age curve is reasonably "fair" regardless of who competed in which weight category at which age.Total does not do this - if, say, heavier athletes happened to compete more often at age 45, the Total curve will "jump" not because form improved, but because the weight composition of the sample changed. To work around this, you can restrict the chart to a single weight category (the category list follows the Senior division) - then comparing Total across ages becomes fair, since everyone is from the same category.
